Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series Results, Anaheim 3

In front of the third sold-out crowd at Angel Stadium this season, Suzuki’s Ricky Carmichael, of Tallahassee, Fla., won his third Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP/Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross race. Reigning AMA Supercross Lites champion Grant Langston, of Clemont, Fla., won the third and final race at Angel Stadium.

After winning the $1,500 Progressive Direct Holeshot Award, Honda’s Kyle Lewis, of Henderson, Nev., crashed on the opening lap. Carmichael pulled into the lead on lap 1, as Kawasaki’s James Stewart, of Haines City, Fla., started in last place due to a first turn crash.

Stewart remounted and staged a comeback, only to tangle and crash with seven-time supercross champion Jeremy McGrath. Suzuki’s Ivan Tedesco, of Murrieta, Calif., moved into second place on lap 2 but was passed by Yamaha’s Chad Reed, of Dade City, Fla., on lap 12. Reed finished second and Tedesco finished third.

“Tonight was a great night for me and Suzuki,” said Tedesco on his first podium of the season. “I didn’t have a great jump, but I was able to sneak in there and run up front.”

Carmichael has been the only rider of the season to make it to the podium at every race, and now holds the largest points lead of the season.

“It is a shame that James (Stewart) crashed tonight,” said Carmichael. “I felt great in the main event and wanted to put on a great show, but that’s racing. “I am glad to be able to leave Anaheim on a win. This season is a test of survival. I am the only one who has been on the podium at every race of the season.”

In the AMA Supercross Lites main event, KTM rookie Mike Alessi, Apple Valley, Calif., won the $1,000 Progressive Direct Holeshot Award, with his teammate Nathan Ramsey, of Menifee, Calif., in second and Langston in third. After passing Ramsey on the opening lap, Langston moved by Alessi on lap 2 and picked up his second win of the season and moved into the points lead. Honda’s Andrew Short, who won the first race of the season at Angel Stadium, passed Alessi on lap 11 to secure the number 2 position on the podium.

“Winning the races is the best way to pick up the championship, and that is what I plan on doing for the rest of the season,” said Langston. “Our team has been working hard this season, especially after last week’s race, where there was mud everywhere and things were a mess. This was an important win for me and my team.”

Tonight’s race will air on SPEED tomorrow, February 5, 2006 at 5:00 p.m. EST.
