FAENZA (ITALY), 5 July 2009 – EMX2 Championship leader Christophe Charlier (France) took new fifty points and increased his advantage in front of Jeffrey Herlings. Aleksander Tonkov (Suzuki, Russia) was second and Italian Rudy Moroni (Yamaha) third.
Same as in the MX3 World Championship the EMX2 victory is going to France. Christophe Charlier from the Italian team Gariboldi Racing won both races with big advantage from the very begining. Young French from Corsica made two explosive starts and he clinched the new victory. Charlier fulfiled the goal of his team, to win in home Faenza.
In the first race his biggest rival for the Championship throne Jeffrey Herlings from the team KTM JM Racing finished second and lost only three points against Charlier’s leadership. But Herlings had bigger problems in the second race. He crashed and finished ninteenth. So Charlier englared the leadership to 37 points.
Russian rider Aleksandr Tonkov (Suzuki) was second twice and finished second overall. This is another good experience for Tonkov in Faenza, because he won the European Championship event in 2007. Also in the EMX2 European Championsip Italians took the podium. Yamaha rider Rudy Moroni finished third and conquered his first EMX2 podium. Glenn Coldenhoff (Suzuki, Netherlands) was fourth after he had an excellent second race, finished second. Italian rider Gianluca Martini (Suzuki) was fifth.
Charlier is leading the EMX2 European Championship in front of Jeffrey Herlings. Third is Klemen Gercar (Slovenia) from Yamaha Gariboldi Racing. Gercar crashed yesterday. Today he was riding with the pain in his chest, so he finished tenth. Herjan Brakke (Honda, Netherlands) is fourth and Matthias Walkner (KTM, Austria) who crashed in the first race is on the fifth position.
Next event for the EMX2 European Championship will be in Orehova vas, Slovenia.
