MLADINA (CROATIA), 19 July 2009 – Same as in the MX3, also the EMX2 victory went to Slovenia. Klemen Gercar from the Team Gariboldi Racing is the winner of the sunny Croatian event. Herjan Brakke (Honda, Netherlands) was second and Christophe Charlier (Yamaha, France) was third.
Also riders competing in the EMX2 European Championship had a morning Qualifying Practice. The KTM JM Racing rider Jeffrey Herlings (Netherlands) took the pole position. Championship leader Christophe Charlier from the Team Gariboldi Racing made the second time, Glenn Coldenhoff (Netherlands, Suzuki) third.
Herjan Brakke (Honda) from Neterlands took the holeshot after the start. French rider Matthias Bellino (Team Gariboldi Racing) made the big comeback after the injury. Bellino started second, passed Brakke and he was riding first. But Brakke took the leadership back and he took also the win of the first race. Klemen Gercar finished third. First three riders had a big advantage in front of competitors.
The second race was stopped in the middle and riders had to start again. The top three riders of the EMX2 Championsip Classification took first positions. Christophe Charlier won, Jeffrey Herlings was second and Klemen Gercar third. It happened already the third time this season that Italian Yamaha Team Gariboldi Racing took a double podium. Klemen Gercar became the winner of the event, Herjan Brakke was second and Christophe Charlier finished third. This is second EMX2 win for Gercar and also his second race on this Croatian race track.
In the EMX2 European Champoionship Classification Charlier is still leading, Herlings is second, Gercar third, Brakke fourth and Matthias Walkner (KTM, Austria) fifth. Charlier is now leading for 47 points in front of Jeffrey Herlings, finished sixth today.
Next event for the EMX2 European Championship will be 2nd of August in Germany.
RIDER’S COMMENTS
1st – KLEMEN GERCAR (SLOVENIA): »It looks that this race track is inclined to me. Here I won also in 2008 and that was my first EMX2 win. Today I won the EMX2 European Championship event for the second time. The track was dry and good prepared. I am really happy for this success. So I would like thank to my team Gariboldi Racing for their help and support. In the Championship Classification I am still third. My goal is to continue like that.«
2nd – HERJAN BRAKKE (NETHERLANDS): »I am happy to take the second position and the podium today. I won the first race and this is my first individual win. I am satisfied with that. For me was better the second race but I was a bit too slow. Thank to my mechanic and my team, the result has shown that we are working well. I hope to continue like that.«
3rd – CHRISTOPHE CARLIER (FRANCE): »First race was not good because I crashed and I was out of the top ten. The track was very muddy. In the second race I took better start. I was not in front from the beginning but I finished first. The track was dry in the second race and for me it was better. In the Championship Classification I have still big advantage and I wish to keep the red plate till the end.«
