KTM DIRECT INJECTION 2T's ON THE WAY?

I got super lucky that I downloaded the July 2007 issue. Here is the kicker, the interviewer is interviewing some big names from KTM and one of them happens to divulge great info on their Direct Injection 2T development and their commitment to the 2T engine in general.

Q:
"With respect to fuel injection, it can be used on engines that are not 4T. You have confirmed that KTM wants to continue investing in the two strokes, and on homologlated enduro 2 strokes. A while ago you spoke about the possibility of a direct injection two stroke. At what point are you in the development of this system?"

A:
"Yes, KTM believes in the two stroke and wants to continue it's development. We have very ambitious projects we are working on. When the time comes we will be ready."

Q:
"That's great, but can you elaborate? When could these direct injection 2 strokes arrive? Model year 2010?

A:
"Ehm...I didn't tell you this...(He scratches his eyebrows, and finally...)
Ok, Ok, I'll tell you. I have already had the chance to ride the bike. And it works already really well. But, it is a complicated system, we need to continue testing it over time. We need to test it in different areas and in different altitudes."
