MX3 – Anderson, Vanni and Pyrhonen finished top three in Markelo

MARKELO (NETHERLANDS), 21 June 2009 – Brad Anderson took the victory on the sandy race track in Markelo. Championship leader Julien Vanni was second, Antti Pyrhonen was third. Riders were competing in changeable and cold weather conditions. Sandy and bumpy track was selective, it was a problem for many riders that are not used to this conditions. After yesterdays Qualifying Practice riders and teams had lot of work with bikes settings because they had to accommodate suspension for this specific ground. Antti Pyrhonen (Honda, Finland) took the lead in the first race but Brad Anderson (Honda, Great Britain) passed him soon. Anderson was leading till the end. Julien Vanni (Honda, France) overtook Christophe Martin (Husqvarna, France) and Pyrhonen which were riding in front of him but he did not come close to Anderson. Vanni was second and third was Pierre Alexandre Renet (Suzuki, France). Alex Salvini (Husqvarna, Italy) who took the pole in the Qualifying Practice was not satisfied with the first race. He crashed with Matevz Irt (Honda, Slovenia) in third lap and they started from the back. Salvini finished only on the twelfth position, while Irt stopped in the middle of the first race because he crashed one more time. The best home rider in the first race was Patrick Roos (KTM).

There was one more race on the programme and the weather was getting worse. Fortunately it stopped raining and riders had better racing conditions. Brad Anderson won also the second race. For him second win was not as easy as the first. Pyrhonen was very fast. After he changed bikes settings his riding was more reliable and Pyrhonen finished second. Rider from Finland was very satisfied to get the new podium. After this result Pyrhonen got rid of a bad feeling after previous not so successful event in Bulgaria. Julien Vanni was third. Home rider Patrick Roos improved result from the first race, finished fourth in the second.

Three Honda riders conquered the podium. Brad Anderson became the winner with all the fifty points. Julien Vanni was second, Antti Pyrhonen was third, Pierre Alexandre Renet fourth and Patrick Roos fifth. In the MX3 World Championship Classification Vanni did gain the advantage of the second Alex Salvini, as Italian rider finished eight. Vanni is now in front for 42 points. Renet is still on the third position and after this event he is only eight points behind Salvini.

Next event for the FIM MX3 World Campionship will be on July 5 in Faenza, Italy. This will be home event for two big MX3 teams – Husqvarna Tecno B and Honda Team MB.

RIDERS COMMENTS

1st – BRAD ANDERSON (GREAT BRITAIN): »It was a right decision to come here in Markelo. I will compete at similar race track next weekend at my home championship. MX3 World Championsip is very strong. I was competing at the first race in Hawkston Park, I wanted to win my home race but I did not. So I am glad to take a win today. The track was difficult and I am really happy for my result.«

2nd –  JULIEN VANNI (FRANCE): »Today was not easy to finish on the top. This was only my second race on the sandy race track. The track was physically very difficult. There were many holes and lines. Although I finished second I have a big advantage of Salvini after this event. Next event will be very important for my Italian Team MB because we will compete in Faenza. I hope to take the podium also there.«

3rd – ANTTI PYRHONEN (FINLAND): »Overall result is perfect. I finished on the podium, what is always my goal. But in general the weekend could be also better. It was difficult. After the first race we changed some settings of the bike and in the second race I had better feeling. The track was difficult even for riders, who are used to compete in the sand. I live in Belgium so I know many people also here in Netherlands and I had a feeling as I am riding at home. My goal for the season is to finish top three in the Championship Classification and I hope I will realize that.«
