STEFAN EVERTS WON FOR THE 98TH TIME AND THE TITLE COMES CLOSER AND CLOSER

LOKET (CZECH REPUBLIC)-This morning the fog disappeared quite quickly in front of a shining sun that heated up the day.

Also in Czech Republic the 23000 people who came to Loket for Motocross could enjoy a nice weekend with some hot racing, especially in MX2.

Actually everybody felt quite cold when the first moto of MX2 started: there was a significant crash; significant not for the riders’ conditions but for who the riders were. Cairoli and Christophe Pourcel for instance, but also Mackenzie, Sebastien Pourcel and Gundersen; on the other side of the group there was De Reuver grasping the holeshot, with Nunn, Chiodi and Rattray following him. The most motivated of the challengers was Rattray, starting to pass rider after rider until he got to De Reuver’s rear end at the third lap. That was the start of an interesting battle between the two with Rattray trying several times to find an open door and sneak through it. He finally made it during the fifteenth lap but Marc crashed right after and finished the race in ninth place. Rattray brought first place home followed by Philippaerts; the Italian was behind Chiodi at the beginning of the race: he made to pass him but he slipped and had to make up the ground he lost. Third place was for Nunn, completing a top three KTM finish. Chiodi was fourth and Searle fifth, after a fantastic duel against Christophe Pourcel who made to end the race in sixth place. On the other hand Cairoli finished a few positions behind, eleventh, after having damaged the rear brake during the crash at the start.

But the Italian found the way to make up for it in the second moto, and that way is called win. He made up ground from seventh place, where he was at the end of the first lap: the first hard challenge was with Philippaerts and the second one was with Pourcel. After that the lead was Antonio’s property and while he was making up so much ground, holeshotter De Reuver was losing it and dropped down to fourth. Philippaerts brought the bike home in third place; he tried hard to pass Christophe Pourcel but did not make it, with the French Championship leader ending second. Fifth place was for Nunn, ahead of other countrymen Mackenzie and Searle. First race winner Rattray did not finish the race: he crashed at the seventh lap.

Philippaerts look forward to winning as many motos as he can: this is his goal for the rest of the season

In MX1 Stefan Everts made to grasp the 98th win, giving a burst to his hopes of winning the Championship in Namur. In the first moto Coppins holeshotted the first turn but Everts snatched the lead from him already in the first lap. Josh did not give up and kept going faster and faster, clocking also the fastest lap, but it was not enough to get to the top again. The New Zealander finished second ahead of Barragan, who was the third rider trying to keep up Stefan’s pace in the early stages of the race. Ramon finished fourth: lap by lap he moved up there because he started from sixth. His team mate Strijbos, yesterday’s poleman, finished in sixth place, behind De Dycker: Kevin had some troubles with the clutch.

In the second moto Everts took the lead a bit later than usual, during the eighth lap. Before that Barragan took the holeshot and lead for the first four laps, while Strijbos snatched top spot in the fifth lap and stayed there until Everts came and moved past him. The Suzuki rider secured second place ahead of Coppins: Josh put on a harder tyre for second moto, it was a gamble and it did not work well at the start. It actually did later and the New Zealander clocked the fastest lap once again. Barragan ended in fourth place ahead of Ramon and De Dycker, while Crockard made to enter the top ten with seventh place.

Stefan Everts increased his leadership and is ready to grasp the tenth Title in Namur

There are not many news if we look at the MX1 standings: we may have something significant in Namur for what concerns the Title but the fight for second looks still open and will surely last longer. In MX2 the first six riders did not change while Searle snatched seventh place from Mackenzie and Chiodi got closer to the top ten being now eleventh.
