Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series Championship, Dallas

Despite a separated left shoulder suffered before the Daytona Beach race, Yamaha’s Chad Reed, of Dade City Fla., pulled off his second Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP/Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series race win in Dallas and now trails points leader Ricky Carmichael by two (296-294) heading into Seattle.

After winning his first AMA Supercross Lites race last weekend in Dallas, Seattle native and rising star Ryan Villopoto, of Poulsbo, Wash., makes his first appearance at Qwest Field this Saturday, April 29 when Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP/Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series makes its annual stop in the Pacific Northwest.

Media day will be held on Thursday, April 27, from Noon-2:00 at Seattle’s Children’s Hospital, where Carmichael and Reed will spend the afternoon signing autographs for the kids.

Reed moved into the lead on lap nine after both Carmichael and James Stewart crashed. The consistency that Reed has displayed this season puts him in the hunt for the Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series championship. In 14 of 16 races this season, he has been on the podium and last week marked his 25th-career AMA Supercross win.

“When you got three guys that really want to win and when you’re going as fast as we’re going on these bikes, things just happen,” said Reed. “Honestly, it’s been a really tough season for me. I felt something was going to go down tonight and it did.  I saw Ricky exit left,  I’m glad I missed the turn before it and I think if I would have been a little closer he would have taken me down with him.  So, I was a happy I was a little more behind him.”

Kawasaki’s Stewart, who has been on the podium at 13 of 16 races this season, remounted from the crash and finished second, giving him an eight-point lead in the Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP season standings. In 34 races in Seattle, Kawasaki has won the main event five times.

“If I could go back to St. Louis the series would be totally different if I would have just stayed up,” said Stewart. “I knew someone went down, but I had no idea if it was Ricky or Chad because I heard the crowd go wild. When I came around the next lap, I didn’t see either one of them on me.”

Villopoto’s win the AMA Supercross Lites class stopped Honda’s seven-race win streak in the division and gave Kawasaki their fourth-consecutive win in Dallas. The Western Regional AMA Supercross Lites champion will be crowned this weekend. Four points separate Honda’s Andrew Short and Kawasaki’s Grant Langston (140-136) heading into the weekend.

Carmichael clinched his first Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP championship at Qwest Field with two races to go last year. Stewart, of Haines City, Fla., won his second career Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP/Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series main event in front of 49,532 fans at the first-ever race at Qwest Field. Ivan Tedesco, of Murrieta, Calif., won his second consecutive 125cc Western Regional Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series championship. KTM’s Nathan Ramsey, of Menifee, Calif., won his third 125cc Western Regional main event of the season.
